Canadian counter-tariffs — effective September 8, 2026
At 12:01 a.m. on September 8, 2026, Canada applies a 25% duty on US-origin kitchen appliances — including grills and cooking plates. The tariffs apply only to goods of US origin. Mont Alpi products are not manufactured in the USA, so they fall outside this measure.

Canada is applying counter-tariffs to roughly $27.6B of US imports across 874 tariff lines at 15%, 25% or 50%. Kitchen appliances — stoves and ranges, refrigerators and freezers, small appliances including grills and cooking plates — are hit at 25%.
The duties apply only to goods eligible to be marked as a good of the U.S. under the Determination of Country of Origin for the Purpose of Marking Goods (CUSMA Countries) Regulations. Country of origin — not brand name or head office — decides exposure.
Our 304 stainless modular islands are not US-origin goods. They are therefore not among the goods subject to the September 8 counter-tariffs. Our pricing is not exposed to that specific duty.
Goods in transit to Canada before September 8 are exempt. US-origin stock already landed isn't affected — but replenishment will be.

To be clear: products made outside the USA — including other Asia-made brands and Canadian-made brands — are also not subject to these counter-tariffs. Our advantage is specifically relative to US-origin products.
In the 2025 counter-tariff round, the Bank of Canada found prices of counter-tariffed goods rose about 6% relative to non-tariffed goods — roughly one-quarter of the duty passed through — and that one appliance retailer raised prices 7% within three days, before the tariff legally applied. Those increases largely unwound within three months once the tariffs were removed. Read that plainly: a near-term increase on affected products is likely, but not necessarily permanent.
What doesn't change: our products aren't subject to this duty, whatever the timeline. If you were already shopping for an outdoor kitchen, September 8 doesn't change our tariff position.
